FOREST GREEN ROVERS - NEW STADIUM CONCEPT
Early in 2016 we entered the competition to design a new Eco Stadium for the first all vegan football team at Forest Green Rovers. We were fortunate to be selected for the second stage of the completion where we developed the designs for submission in late June. We are up against specialist stadium designers, practices with international reputations and a number of overseas companies.
We have worked with structural engineers Constructure, sustainability consultant Max Fordham and landscape architects Enplan to develop a scheme we are very proud of. The scene is based on the typology of an Iron Age Hill Fort with steep grass banks enclosing the stadium, with a moat adding protection and a number of our sustainable ideas.
The stadium needed to comply with the criteria of the football league, starting with a 5,000 capacity but able to expand to 10,000. The stadium needed to be as close to zero carbon as possible meaning the material and construction choices are the most important elements as carbon in use is likely to be low.
